NEW ALPHABET 3

by Wim Crouwel, The Netherlands

A set of patterns made using the typeface New Alphabet. Selected letters have been arranged into pattern formations. The letters link up in logical ways in every direction, despite being sometimes arranged in random ways.

New Alphabet was made in 1967 and was originally designed to be easily read by early computer systems. There are no diagonals or curves, it is based on a strict matrix system. There are three weights of the typeface: regular, semi bold and bold; using these different grades there are three patterns; New Alphabet 1, New Alphabet 2, and New Alphabet 3.
